OUR ANIMALS AT CLEDAN VALLEY

Llamas
Our Cledan Valley Llamas are called Nora, Sally and Kiara.
Llamas originally lived on the plains of North America and migrated south to the Andes about three million years ago! They were domesticated about 5,000 years ago.
Llamas can be grouped broadly into two types: Ccara and Tampuli.
In the UK there are estimated to be well over 5,000 llamas.
Alpacas
Our Cledan Valley Alpacs are called Gracie, Tracie and Ginnie.
Gracie is pregnant with her second baby. She is Tracie’s Mum.
Ginnie is a litle bit Grumpie.
Alpacas are much smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, they were not bred to be working animals. They were bred specifically for their fibre. Alpaca fibre is used for making knitted and woven items, similar to sheep’s wool.
Alpacas communicate through body language. The most common is spitting to show dominance when they are in distress, fearful, or feel agitated.

Pigs
Our Cledan Valley pigs change from year to year.
We have recently had Gloucestershire Old Spots which is a spotted pig breed that originated in Gloucestershire.
This pig breed is best known for its intelligence and docile nature.
Chickens
We have a diverse flock at Cledan Valley our chicken breeds include Oxford Old English Game, Black Rock and Rhode Island Blue.

Bees
Our Cledan Valley queen bees are currently settling down to hibernate for the winter. When spring blooms they will emerge from hibernation to beging laying eggs for the summer.
